About Yourself:Started off as a present for my partner, then all hell broke loose and i started buying lights and researching everything possible. We have 3 tanks now and our 4ft is our largest, we also have a wavey front tank and a cichlid tank with a mated pair of red jewels breeding like mad. The wave tank has Angels that look like they are ready to pop at any time :-)
About Yourself:Uhhhhh... hey..names john..25.. I have been keeping fish since i was about 15ish.. my parents always had tanks as i grew up..and i always helped maintain them and i guess the hobby spread to me..from little 5g tanks in my room to 150g in my own living room.. right now i only have 1 tank do to a recent move and am going to keep it simple for now :)
Fish Kept:I have had everything from piranha to stingrays to discus ....and now after all my exotics...im back to my basics...neons and white clouds and loaded with dwarf shrimp :) ..and so far this is probably my fav. setup.
Corals/Plants:Various freshwater plants... i do love my planted tank but i do not really get into all the names and what not of my plants..
Advice:Dont overkill with chemicals ...and be patient.. rushing into things just cost more money..AND PLEASSSSEEEEE RESEARCH THE FISH YOU WANT!!!!..other then that keeping a nice aquarium is rather simple..
Advice:only had a fish tank for 5 months but i've learnt:
Water changes are the most important thing. I do 33% water changes per week, just to be safe on water quality.
When you check your water parameters with test kits, test your tap water if used, It surprised me how much ammonia and nitrates and phosphates were in there to begin with.
There is tons of free information on the internet just check and check again. Join a web community, there are lots of experienced people out there happy to help you, just for the love of the hobby.
Advice:When starting the planted aquarium hobby, was tough for me because i did not know the exact things that went into a tank but little by little, reading and reaserching i became familiar with all the specs and equipment necessary for a well balanced aquarium. There is always room for improvement so stick with it.
