Rated #36: 90 Gallons Planted Tank

Rated #36: 90 Gallons Planted Tank - 90 gallon wider that it is tall as
it was originally home to 6 axolotls
and floor space was more important
than water depth. Sand substrate,
extreme low light.

It is now a planted african river
biotope tank. (yeah I know java fern
isnt african)

All fish are African riverine
species including:
1 x Elephant nose,
1 x African Brown Knife Fish,
6 x Featherfin Synodontis Catfish,
2 x Upsidedown Catfish,
2 x Kribensis,
2 x Spotted African Climbing Perch,

19 x Congo Tetras,
2 x African Butterfly Fish.

Plants are all low light species:
Java Fern, Anubias, Vallis.

Tech:
LIGHTING:Very low tech, 1 x 40w
Hagen Auaglo flourescent and 1 x 24w
Actinic blue moon light for night
time viewing. Its a miracle that any
plants grow hence why I have had to
sacrifice a "true" African biotope
by using Java Fern as it is one of
the only plants to survive such low
light conditions.

FILTRATION: Fluval 304 external
cannister filter and Fluval U4
internal filter.

HEATING: 2 x Interpet 350w
submersible heaters.

Dosing: None, except the addition of
black water extract to darken and
condition the water during water
change.

Advice: If in doubt leave it out! Research, Research, Research before buying any new fish, ensure that they are 100% compatible with your planned stock. Oh and if you own or are planning on buying a Ropefish/Reedfish, DO NOT underestimate these guys, DO NOT leave any tiny gap in the lid no matter how small, plug up every gap. Master escape artists is an understantement! You have been warned!

About Yourself: I'm and avid fish-goer. I took up this art (because it's not just a hobby) years ago to actually learn the feeding habits of various types of fish. Why? I love to fish, and seeing how fish are and how they eat, helped me with figuring out just how to refine my sport fishing. Also, there is nothing better than coming home and feeling the peace and tranquility of being able to watch the our personal National Geographic at home. We have seven tanks, each built out with separate habitas, everything from African set ups, amazon set ups, river and tropics. I try to get fish that are unique and rarely find in home aquariums. I love having friends over who feel as if they should have paid an entrance fee just to see the exhibits we have set up. Lastly, although a very expensive habit, it's something I can do at home and save from having to go out and look for fun!
Fish Kept: In this tank we have our flowerhorn, a catfish, two butterfly fish, and some chiclid rams, there is a pleco who's grown quite a bit, and a few barbs that hang around the base of the drift wood. This tank represents, peace and tranquility! :) And luck of course.
Corals/Plants: Had this one full of live plants before, but they were quickly turned into lunch for the tank inhabitants.
Tank Size: 60 gallons
Advice: Take it slow! - Or sometimes be willing to take losses. And definately do your homework to ensure you are capable of supporting your fish and it's needs.
