Started my first cichlid tank 14 years ago. Have always had 55 gal tanks. Thinking of switching to my 75 and getting a 125-150 for my breeding Frontosas. Stay tuned for pics!

Description:
My 55gal assorted Malawi/Tanganyika cichlid tank. Malawi fish include a yellow lab, demasoni, hap compressiceps(eye biter), hap moorii(blue dolphin), peacock hybrid and Synodontis catfish. Tanganyika fish include a golden juli and a calvus. Also Raphael Catfish, 2 plecos, clown loach, 2 danias, and some botias.

I got into the hobby with Fancy Guppies, I dove into the hobby with Bettas. After that the fish world had me enthralled.
I'm working towards a double degree in Biology - with Organismic leaning - and Creative Writing. I love researching things, not only in the field, but at the computer and library as well. I read such a large number of books that I've ruined my eyes, and I have the same regard of animals (be they fish, reptiles, mammals, birds, or even some bugs) as most people have of other people.

I prefer the look of unplanted freshwater tanks, and I have not at this time ever had a salt water tank.

Advice:
It may seem easier to just get your fish to survive, but fish always pay you back, either with added entertainment or added beauty or pure satisfaction, if you go through the effort to make them thrive.
Research as much as possible! There are a lot of sites and a lot of books, so don't just rely on forums, although they can be helpful as well. Try to go through lots of sources and get a consensus rather than relying on just a few opinions.
Always cycle your tanks before you put fish in, and don't change all the filter media at once.
Do at least a 25% water change once a week. Also, get the required size of aquarium your fish will need when they are fully grown right off the bat. Always assume something will go wrong with upgrading later and you'll never be in trouble when something does.

I have 2 tanks, a 55 Mbuna and 37 gallon with tiger barbs, a rainbow shark and a small pleco. I plan on getting much larger tanks eventually, and my dream tank is a 155 Bowfront
