Always been interested in fish Find them very relaxing and therapeutic. Grew up in the ocean diving and surfing. Never got around to setting up a tank. Now I am 32 and it is time. Probably inspired by a mate of mines set up around 400Gallon Malawi Cichlid tank. Keen to hear anyones thoughts on my set up, LIKES DISLIKES SUGGESTIONS ect
Fish Kept:
Malawi Cichlids Mbunas 17 In total mixed
Corals/Plants:
A few plastic plants
Tank Size:
50 gallons
Advice:
New at this (First Tank) so STILL LEARNING - READ READ READ!!! ALSO Use sites such as this for info and tips on set ups ect VERY HELPFUL
Decide on the type of fish you want first then plan from there. Be patient with your set up. FILTRATION IS KEY and KNOW THE NITROGEN CYLCE Clean Decor and substrate thoroughly Choose the correct Fish not just anything in stock at the moment. It may be tedious to start BUT it will pay off long term (I hope)

Keeping it all natural.
About Yourself:
I work shift work at a refinery. The fish are relaxing to watch and enjoy after the work day is done.
Fish Kept:
25 male only african cichlids (mbunas & peacocks), 1 convict (south american), 2 catfish, 2 clown loach.
Corals/Plants:
All Live; Anubius, sword, java fern and one other?
Tank Size:
90 gallons
Advice:
Try not to buy entire put together kits when buying an aquarium as the componets are generally poor quality. Buy your tank separtely and upgrade in better equipment.
When going with african cichlids purchase your peacock cichlids, cats & algae eaters first and later after a couple months add your more aggresive mbuna. The mbuna may not attack the established fish in your tank but they will be very aggressive or kill new fish. Learned the hard way.
