About Yourself:
I am fairly new to the hobby. I started the tank during my R & R from Kuwait with the Army in July of 2009 with regular community tropical fish. When I returned home from deployment in October 2009, My wife and I decided to change over to Cichlids.
Fish Kept:
I keep this tank stocked kind of heavy in order to help keep aggression down with the fish.
African Cichlids:
3- Melanochromis Aurutus (all males)
5- Yellow Labs (unsure of sex)
11- Pseudotropheus saulosi (6 males, 5 females)
South American Cichlid:
1- Jack Dempsey (male)
Regular community tropical fish:
1- Rainbow Shark
1- Silver Dollar
1- Pleco
Other:
1- Blue Crayfish named Fred!
Corals/Plants:
None, Cichlids like to EAT plants!
Tank Size:
55 gallons
Advice:
You might as well get the biggest aquarium possible now because once you get one, you will want a BIGGER one!!! I am going tommorow to purchase a 120 gallon!
Description:
This is my 55 gallon mostly African Cichlid tank.

The big fish eat the little ones.
About Yourself:
Beginner fish-keeper. It is rare that I really get into something and invest a lot of effort into it but when I do it is long term.
This hobby definitively grabbed me.
Fish Kept:
Black Skirt Tetra, Pictus Cat, Blue Gourami, Neon Tetra
Corals/Plants:
Fake plants at this time.
Tank Size:
30 gallons
Advice:
I am a new hobbyists but would say to take your time. The process of setting the tank up is fun in itself so don't rush to get the results you have envisioned. It's a delicate balance (to quote both Radiohead and The Lion King hahaha) that can't be achieved in a day or two.
Description:
I have a tall tank that is just under 30 gallons. Inside of the tank I have black aquarium gravel with smooth, black to dark river pebbles layered on top of it. In the center I have a large Buddha statue that is almost the height of the aquarium. Behind the statue I have a bubble curtain and have various artificial plants surrounding him. The background is painted blue and am very pleased with the way it turned out. Penguin Power Wheel 350 Double Filter with Bio-balls and carbon. Also I have a self regulated heater and a aquaculture double air pump that's powerful enough for a 60 gallon tank. .

Fish Kept:
In my life I have kept cichlids, barbs, sharks, loaches, crayfish, goldfish, gourami and catfish all sucessfully. Not all in one tank obviously.
Corals/Plants:
Jsut freshwater so no corals and I dont get into live plants.
Tank Size:
30 gallons
Advice:
Take it slow. Not to many fish at once. You can however bend the rules a little bit when it comes to the inch per gallon rule, i dont care what anyone says I have done it many times with no problems what so ever. Just dont get out of control.
Description:
My first african cichlid tank! 30 gallon regular, african cichlid tank. Mixed african cichlids, clown loaches. Sorry its a little out of focus.
