I got into the hobby when i was about ten years of age, but it was about eight years ago when I got back into the hobby.Then came hurricane katrina I had to start all over, and I did, in nashville Tn. The hobby makes up a big part of my life.

Advice:
The best advice I can give is filtration. The more filtration you have the more time you will spend looking at your fish than cleaning your tank. One other peice of advice, go big.

I'm a Tool & Die maker still making it in Windsor ON. 7 years and still going with the same company.
Got into this hobby because of a 30 G tank my bro-in-law gave me. I used to get chirped from my buddies about my 'Cichlids', but now they come over and stare at my tank for hours on end.

Electric yellows, Nimbochromis Venustus, Red Shoulder peacocks, HAP SP. 44s, Red Top Ice Blues.

Advice:
it's easier to maintain a healthy tank than it is to try and fix an unhealthy tank.
Water changes are key. I do 25% weekly, that way it doesn't become a chore. I clean the filter every 6 weeks.
TONNES of online resources to be found. Join a forum and learn from others.

Take your time, the tank will take its. So no need to rush-the more thought out the better the result for your self and you Aquatic Life. I had a simple 20 gal for a long time, so about 4 months ago I decided to pump up the volume. I am still rearranging and creating habitats for my little guys. My tank makes me so happy every day. Everyone should have a fish tank.
