Not happy Jan! Haha!
About Yourself:
We live in an apartment on the top floor of our building and originally wanted a cat or a dog but it just wasn't practical. Nowhere to run around outside and where would it poop? Kitty litter does NOT turn me on. Then we went to a friend's house party and we spent most of the night peering into their awesome reef aquarium rather than making conversation or interacting with any of the humans! We knew then, we had to get our own fish tank! They actually lent us their 20L tank to begin our reef love affair and two years later here we are still very much in love with the reef and all its creatures.
Fish Kept:
clownfish, a damsel and a mimic tang
Corals/Plants:
many! hammer, pipe organ, candy cane, elegance, heliofungia, stoney, star polyp and many coloured morphs
Tank Size:
44 gallons
Advice:
Don't muck around with a little tank in the beginning. Buy the biggest you can afford as it will be more forgiving of mistakes and you will no doubt want to upgrade in no time anyway!
Read books and online threads to get a wide range of opinions and knowledge before you buy and waste money or lose livestock. Be patient and enjoy the process of your little reef ecosystem evolving. Spend time getting to know your fish and other livestock so you know when they are sick. If they are left too long the ammonia they produce could have a disastrous effect on everything else in your tank.

Of the vast saltwater in the world, a little of that being reef and to have a minuscule of this in your living room is indeed thrilling.
About Yourself:
I’m happy to be in this hobby perplexed at it’s “beauty past compare”.
Fish Kept:
Clarkii clown, Electric blue damsel, Yellow tail damsel.
Corals/Plants:
Daisy/Flowerpot Corals (Goniopora sp.), Button Polyps (Zoanthids), Pagoda Coral (Turbinaria peltata) and Cup Coral (Turbinaria reniformis).
Tank Size:
30 gallons
Advice:
My reef tank’s 3 years as on 27.08.09. Corals are thriving and had no setbacks. I use Red Sea products. Phosphate removers are not readily available here and RO units here have high TDS, so have been using Aquafina. However, Aquafina being expensive, I’ve been able to do 30% water changes every 6 month. Your comments and suggestions are welcome.

About Yourself:
Been doing saltwater FOWLR since 2000 (no experience with corals).
Corals/Plants:
chaeto
Tank Size:
100 gallons
Advice:
Anything in living room needs the wife approval so I would recommend the book "The Inspired Aquarium" by Jeff Senske and Mike Senske.
- The Tropical Marine Fish Survival Manual by Gordon kay
- Marine Fishes by Scott W. Michael
- 500 Ways to be a better saltwater fishkeeper
- The Conscientious Marine Aquarist
- Aquariums for Dummies
MY BOTTOM LINE ADVICE:
0. MOST IMPORTANT: This hobby is expensive. This setup is $2500 with a used tank and used live rock. This setup new would be $4000. Add $400 for dead fish... I lost half the livestock in the first 6 months while the tank is getting stabilized. Annual costs $300 for salt, electric, bulbs, replace broken equipment, frozen food.
2. Maintain the best water quality (get a Reef Octopus BH2000 protein skimmer with external pump to minimize heat. Don't buy the useless AquaC Remora protein skimmer because it's noisy, has ugly pump inside your tank, adds heat to your water, and I've only seen it work with the water as dirty yellow instead of clear water)
4. Butterfly fish (even heniochus so I gave up after the 4th one died due to aggression from emperor angel, coral beauty, singapore angel and yellow tang) are very very fragile so don't waste your money.
5. Use Selcon food additive to prevent HLLE disease.
