Rated #113: 80 Gallons Reef Tank

Rated #113: 80 Gallons Reef Tank - It's an 80 gallon flat bed tank we got from a shop that they had gotten custom. About 100 lbs of liverock and a homemade sump w UV but W/O protein skimmer. It's pretty much self contained, we just put in additives and some frozen shrimp and do rare water changes to avoid build up of stuff from evaporation. Sea horses, a pipe fish, an abundance of inverts, and more, we even have a population of about 30 little snails that were born in the tank.196 watts o' light. Sorry it's just a close up cropped picture, and not a full tank shot.

Quote: Why can't this be my job?
About Yourself: Always have been around aquariums. Bred guppies and collected creatures in the saltwater flats here with my family growing up. Later, enjoyed African Cichlids. Once I found out that you can have a reef tank that does not involve the destruction of our beautiful real coral reefs, I jumped right in! (Pun intended)
Fish Kept: Too many.. Mostly freshwater.
Corals/Plants: A lot. I'll get back to this.
Tank Size: 47 gallons
Advice: Keep it simple. do not overfeed, and change your water frequently! Secondly, waterflow and lighting are important!

Rated #117: 65 Gallons Reef Tank

Rated #117: 65 Gallons Reef Tank - my cute little 5 gallon. only a jebo skimmer with 10 watt jebo light. soon to go upto 20 watts. life includes two clowns (gold banded and red marron ) one hermit crab. red bamboo coral a little cabbage a beautiful colony of polops feather duster, and of course a pink anemonie for my clowns. no heater. i find that it is easier to keep a 5 gallon crisp than anything else. the water is never tested one 8 ounce glass change daily. the water is so clear it looks like the fish float in space.

Advice: Be patient, very patient, when starting up a saltwater tank. I was impatient and suffered some headaches that probably could have been avoided had I been more patient. Research!! Research what you are doing BEFORE you start. I didn't and there again suffered some issues that probably could have been easiyl avoided.
