Quote: Cichlids are like kids in a irish family. You treat them the same and they'll all kill eachother.
About Yourself: I am a manager of a Petsmart. So I had to get "certified" in the care of every animal we sell. This made me like fish. And now I'm seeking to actually be as knowledgable as I'm supposed to be. I like small tanks. Because they are challenging and tricky. All my tanks are more like stress tests. I want to push boundaries of what can be kept. Without getting some giant fish that cant turn around. That's just mean and not thought provoking.
Corals/Plants: None
Tank Size: 10 gallons
Advice: Talk to everyone. Fish isn't an exact science. The excitement is seeing the limits pushed. Seeing stuff that makes you question any hard rules you thought you knew about the hobby.

Quote: "What was this guy thinking? To own so many tanks is crazy. What kind of a person would want more than one small aquarium in their house?" --Nikolay, sarcastically commenting on a Craigslist ad selling a large number of aquariums

Corals/Plants: TANK: Alternanthera Reineckii 'Rosaefolia', Anubias Barteri Var. Barteri, Anubias Barteri Var. Nana, Bacopa Monnieri, Barclaya Longifolia, Bolbitis Heudelotii, Cabomba Furcata, Cryptocoryne Wendtii 'Green Gecko', Cyperus Helferi, Cryptocoryne Parva, Cryptocoryne Retrospiralis, Cryptocoryne Undulata, Echinodorus 'Kleiner Bar', Echinodorus Osiris, Eleocharis Vivipara, Egeria Densa, Echinodorus Vesuvius, Hemianthus Micranthemoides, Ludwigia Arcuata, Mayaca Fluviatilis, Microsorum Pteropus, Microsorum Pteropus 'Windelov', Myriophyllum Mattogrossense, Nymphaea Lotus (Zenkeri) 'Red', Potamogeton Gayi, Rotala Indica, Taxiphyllum Alternans. BOG: Hemianthus Callitrichoides, Salvinia Natans, Selaginella Erythropus, Sarracenia 'Judith Hindle', Echinodorus Rubin, Mondo Grass - Dwarf, Begonia Bipinnatifida, Pilea Cadieri, Ficus Salicifolia, Peperomia Angulata, Ananas Nanus.
Tank Size: 240 gallons
Advice: Do your research, start with a tank of decent size so you have a margin of error on the chemistry. Get an oversized filter and use only mechanical and biological filter media (no carbon or ammonia removers). Use a plant substrate for the tank and plant heavily from the start. Use CO2 injection, whether homemade or compressed tank. make sure you have enough light, a single bulb is not enough. Research your fish choices to ensure they will get along, not outgrow your tank and don't require special water conditions. Establish and follow a consistent schedule of water changes and fertilizer dosing. Keep notes on what you do and how well it works. You will be rewarded.

Quote: Let acid rain fall onto the petsmart people.
About Yourself: My name is Dan Robbins. I am a college student from Wales Uk. I have been keeping cichlids for many years and work in Maidenhead aquatics. I am an author, currently writing a book on South American cichlds. I have kept an bred a wide range of cichlids including the reasonably rare Arhocentrus Centrarchus or Flier cichlid. I try to decorate my tank in the most natural way possible and belelive strongly any fish keeper should do the same. Not only does it have a truely stunning visual appeal but is beneficial for the fish being kept.
Fish Kept: American cichlids.
Corals/Plants: Plants from the Central to Southern reaches on America.
Tank Size: 150 gallons
Advice: Research your fish before purchasing. Dont purchase on impulse and only buy from professional well reputed stores.
