Advice:
Lots of advice possible, here are the top lessons learnt:1. If you want a planted tank, people normally would suggest that you buy all the equipment and then the plants. That works for most, but I was specific abt the plants I wanted... Which then determined the equipment I needed. But the key is to match plants to equipment you have.2. Never buy all the fish at once, it's very tempting to get all the fish you want. But never do that. Always buy fishes in batches (quarantine it) with at least 2 - 3 weeks gap.3. Buy fishes from the same dealer. This helps any cross contamination / risk of infections. 4. Invest in timers and auto dosing machines. It helps a lot in reducing regular maintenance work load.5. Discus fish keeping is not easy but not very hard as people make it look. People say that these fishes are very shy and don't eat flake food etc. I have had mine eating flake food from my hands. 6. Enjoy the hobby and spread the cheer :)

About Yourself:
I've been into freshwater aquariums since I was a teenager, but I left the hobby for a long time.
I have recently taken it up again and glad I did.
Fish Kept:
Currently:
16 zebra danios
7 platys
7 bronze corydoras
2 kuhli loaches
2 golden chinese algae eaters
3 oto cats
Corals/Plants:
Java fern, Anubias, Vallisneria, and I can't remember the scientific names of the rest...Sorry
Tank Size:
24 gallons
Advice:
Use ADA Amazonia Soil and a lot of it. Would recommend at least 3-4" deep to allow optimal root growth.
Don't need to use Co2 if you use good lighting, would recommend 1 watt per liter. This is where I fell short, but my plants still managed to thrive.

Description:
Volume: 65x32x34 cm, 70 litres (15 galons)
Lighting and photoperiod: 3x 20W (1000lm, 4000K), 11h for day
Description of CO2 System: DIY project (CO2 reactor, JBL CO2 Vario - diffuser)
Plant spiecies list: Riccia fluitans, Heteranthera zosterifolia, Cabomba caroliniana, Limnophila aromatica, Ludwigia repens green, Eleocharis acicularis, Limnophila aquatica
Fish and invertebrate spiecies list: 15 x Cardinal tetra (Paracheirodon axelrodi), 2 x Siamese algae-eater (Crossocheilus siamensis), 4 x Otocinclus mariae
The tank was set up in October 2003. The subtratum is gravel without any fertilizer. Plants were bought alomost in the same time. Aquascape is my own idea. I havent got any serious problems with algae (only incidentally). I add my own-made firtelizer and also N, P and K. Most part of plants is green (except Limnophila aromatica). Fishes and plants create natural contrast.
