About Yourself: Brand new in the hobby, but have several friends who know the hobby, and have helped me out. Thanks for looking!
Fish Kept: 3 Bolivian Rams, 3 Apistogramma Cacatuoides, 5 Asstd Platys, 5 Otocinclus, 4 Peppered Corys, 1 Cardinal Tetra, 2 Bamboo shrimp, 15 Ghost shrimp, , Believe it or not, everyone gets along 110%. I thought I would lose a few ghost shrimp, but they have not been touched., , I'm at maximum capacity, so I do 25% water changes/vacuuming every 1.5 weeks., , Feed: Flake and NLS Cichlid Formula, and freeze-dried brine shrimp every few days.
Corals/Plants: All plastic and silk. A combination of Sea Garden, Tetra Water Wonders, and Penn Plax plants.

I use Malaysian driftwood, which really accentuates the tank.
Tank Size: 72 gallons
Advice: Research!!! My tank is relatively young, and I learned from my mistakes. Until my tank was properly cycled, I did unfortunately lose a couple platys and tetras. Now, I am correctly cycled, and everyone inside is happy.

Advice: DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!! - Most people don't know as much as they claim. TAKE YOUR TIME - nothing happens fast or intant in this hobby. Cycling, cures, growth,...nothing. DON'T COMPROMISE - Get the best stuff for you tank based on your homework. TEST, TEST, TEST...Water quality is the most important thing in the hobby. Your tap, the tank, the water at the pet shop. Test every bodies water, don't care if they like it or not. Because most pet shops don't give warranties and if the fish is diseased it could kill everything. READ, READ, READ - For example...Learning how to aclimate properly. Compatibility. Read about who has the best test kits, like Hagen for NH3 or how most copper test kits don't work.

Advice: Educate yourself. Read from different sources and correlate information since there's lots of conflicting information on web sites and by people posting on different forums. Plan ahead. Where are you going to put the tank? How big of a tank can you realistically place in that location? Will that area support the weight of the aquarium? Estimate ~10 lbs. per gallon which includes substrate and other objects. Are you willing to do 20% water changes of 20 gallons on a 100 gallon tank or would you rather do 20% water changes of 6 gallons on a 20 gallon tank? How many fish do you expect to see while viewing the aquarium? Size accordingly. Use tool and bounce ideas around with forums members. What type of fish do you want? Are they going to get along together? Do they eat the same food? Can they coexist at the same water temperature and water environment. Are you going to want live plants? Are you going to pick species that will be able to thrive in the environment that the fish will live in? Are you willing to trim and care for plants as well as the fish? More questions than answers. These are some of the questions you should research and have answers to before you buy your equipment. You then need to do your research on the different type of equipment to house your new world. Enjoy!
