About Yourself:
Keeping convicts at the moment - just bought a new 100 gallon tank with 4 light tubes and filter and heater, just trying to figure somewhere in the house it can go now before I can set it up. I'm not sure if ill put the convicts in the big tank or keep a mixed tank with other fish, maybe keep the convicts and add more cichlids and have an african tank perhaps.
Fish Kept:
Convict Cichlids at the moment, 2 parents and about 30 younger ones.
Corals/Plants:
A mixture of synthetic plants - like I say they look real and my convicts only destroy real plants for fun.
Tank Size:
20 gallons
Advice:
Keep it simple if you have no time, fancy looking fish can still look spectacualr and no-one knows they are low maintenance apart from professional fish keepers! If you have the time, go marine and keep something really difficult.
Description:
My Convict Cichlid tank setup, a breeding pair and about 30 young. one of the adults can be seen in the back left just through the hole in the rock, the pair insist on laying the eggs on the bottom of the filter (not sure why). This makes maintenance more difficult that it should be, as can be seen in the picture the fish have moved the gravel around a lot (it was flat when I first put it in). The tank is mainly beingused until I set up my Rio 400, however I still enjoy keeping this tank and convicts are really interesting fish but very terrotorial, infact the breeding pair killed off another 4 convicts before they bred, however they seem happy with the young in there.
You can see the heater quite clear in the picture however when stood up it cant be seen, I used to have it higher but a couple of fish kept sitting in between it at the top of the water.
The tank bed is a mixture of white stone and black, slowly fading from one to another, this gives a really effectiver tank floor. There are two largish rocks in the tank both with 3 holes each that meet in the middle, and then theres 4 pieces of slate along with a mixture of plants to creating plenty of hiding places for the fish (when ou move sharply they all disappear then all reappear) if there isnt enough room for all the fish to hide then there isnt enough hiding space!
The plants are obviously syntetic to convict keepers as they have a fun habbit of destroying plants for fun.

Fish Kept:
Neons, Guppies, Swordtails, Angel Fish, Mollies, Kuhli Loaches, Silver (Bala) Sharks, Bristlenose Catfish, Clown Loach, Platy, Bolivian Ram Cichild... about 37 all up just to start out with...
Corals/Plants:
Sandstone Feature Rocks, Real Wood (Gum Tree) Features, Lace Fern, Ambulia, Thin Val Reed, Moss, Giant Hairgrass, Water Sprite, Blue Stricta, Duck Weed.
Tank Size:
70 gallons
Advice:
CLEAN Your Gravel, then clean it again!
Setup Plants before putting in water.
Hold you plants down but poking them through stocking or net, then cover with gravel.
Feature stones are easy to find for free - just look around outside!
Decide on STYLE of fish before buying - large fish eat neons!
Clean feature rocks first - avoid using sandstone - makes dusty water and can disitigrate in water over time.
Avoid fake anything!!! eg: Fake plants, fake ornaments, fake rocks, fake gravel - just looks cheap.

About Yourself:
my mother inlaw 4 months ago bought a common goldfish and put it in one of those kiddy plastic tanks, i started thinking about it how unhappy the goldfish looked in there. searched the internet on goldfish fishtanks and BOY! was i right, after a week of reading, about fishtanks and fishes. i persuaded my wife to get a fishtank. she agreed on the basis it would be a marine tank. after showing her the costs involved in getting marine, she happily agreed to a tropical, decorated in marine style. in a way iam glad i saw that goldfish, otherwise i would have never found my hobby. and when my mother in law saw how nice our tank was, she asked me to get her a big tank so she can decorate it and make it a feature in her living room. I GOT HER A NICE BIG SECONDHAND 75 gallon tank, after some clever persuasion, she agreed. so currently EVERYONES HAPPY. my wife for a marine style tank my 12 neons for having the tank to themselves my mother inlaw for showing off her fishtank to EVERYONE!!
and most of all, who started all this. THE COMMON GOLDFISH. who now lives in a 75 gallon tank with a friend!

About Yourself:
My fish are my therapy. Some times a pain in the ass when it comes to tank cleaning but always well worth the outcome. Feeling of accomplishment and I love the way it sounds at night. I positioned my LED lighting to reflect at night time so the fish shadows circulate in my living room when dark.
