About Yourself: well, i work at a pet store! go figure, but i got into the hobby long before i started working there.
Fish Kept: Fish------ 1 Neon Tetra. 3 Von Rio Orange Tetras. 3 German Blue Rams (1 male 2 female). 1 Gold Ram (female). 2 baby Leaf fish. 1 painted skirt tetra (i know-- bad me, but he was being picked on at the pet store, so i saved him from being beaten to death). 1 palateus cory. 1 skunk cory. 2 african ropefish. 2 striped raphael catfish. 1 lace catfish. 1 tatia bumblebee catfish. 1 Farlowella and a constant supply of 2 dozen feeder shrimp for the ropefish
Corals/Plants: De'cor----- mostly artifical, with 2 live amazone sword plants, 1 piece of live drift wood
Tank Size: 29 gallons
Advice: This tank may sound overcrowded, but the crush coral and flourite help to maintain a Ph range of 6.8 - 7.2, the magnum 350 is more than sufficient to filter the small tank twice over each hour. My advice is to always have a setup where your filtration is twice your tank size (if possible), it just helps to keep the toxins and waste under control. Of course KNOW your fish and their habitat and needs.

Rated #185: 20 Gallons Freshwater Fish Tank

Rated #185: 20 Gallons Freshwater Fish Tank - My Convict Cichlid tank setup, a breeding pair and about 30 young. one of the adults can be seen in the back left just through the hole in the rock, the pair insist on laying the eggs on the bottom of the filter (not sure why). This makes maintenance more difficult that it should be, as can be seen in the picture the fish have moved the gravel around a lot (it was flat when I first put it in). The tank is mainly beingused until I set up my Rio 400, however I still enjoy keeping this tank and convicts are really interesting fish but very terrotorial, infact the breeding pair killed off another 4 convicts before they bred, however they seem happy with the young in there.

You can see the heater quite clear in the picture however when stood up it cant be seen, I used to have it higher but a couple of fish kept sitting in between it at the top of the water.

The tank bed is a mixture of white stone and black, slowly fading from one to another, this gives a really effectiver tank floor. There are two largish rocks in the tank both with 3 holes each that meet in the middle, and then theres 4 pieces of slate along with a mixture of plants to creating plenty of hiding places for the fish (when ou move sharply they all disappear then all reappear) if there isnt enough room for all the fish to hide then there isnt enough hiding space!

The plants are obviously syntetic to convict keepers as they have a fun habbit of destroying plants for fun.

About Yourself: Keeping convicts at the moment - just bought a new 100 gallon tank with 4 light tubes and filter and heater, just trying to figure somewhere in the house it can go now before I can set it up. I'm not sure if ill put the convicts in the big tank or keep a mixed tank with other fish, maybe keep the convicts and add more cichlids and have an african tank perhaps.
Fish Kept: Convict Cichlids at the moment, 2 parents and about 30 younger ones.
Corals/Plants: A mixture of synthetic plants - like I say they look real and my convicts only destroy real plants for fun.
Tank Size: 20 gallons
Advice: Keep it simple if you have no time, fancy looking fish can still look spectacualr and no-one knows they are low maintenance apart from professional fish keepers! If you have the time, go marine and keep something really difficult.

Fish Kept: Currently have 1 irridescent shark (10 inches), two Jack Dempseys, 8 assorted african cichlids, 2 firemouth cichlids, 3 bala sharks (3 inches) and two straightbodied silver fish with pink tails and yellow pectoral fins. They stay at the surface (6 inches)
Corals/Plants: Use ocean rocks and some various sticks taken from the Atlantic. No live rock now that I've converted from Salt water.
Tank Size: 300 gallons
Advice: First decision is either keeping a very busy tank with many smaller fish and lots of decorations, or going with fewer, larger fish and a simpler tank setup. I prefer larger fish as they seem to have more personality to me and have more of an impact than small fish.
