Quote: Only when you truly love the fish, will the fish love you back!
About Yourself: I used to live in California in the United States but I had to move to Galway in Ireland because of family business. I was forced to sell my 15 gallon fish tank with my beloved goldfish it was very sad as they were 10 years old. I bought a new 17 gallon tank here in Ireland with new goldfish and a algae eaters eater and im flying it!!!!!!! ITS A GREAT HOBBY!!!!!!!!
Fish Kept: My fish are fairly simple to mind but I like them I have a variety of 6 goldfish, 3 white cloud moutain minnow, 2 plecostomuses, 1octomus (algae crew) and 3 weather loach.
Corals/Plants: I have plants with some fake plants and river rocks at the bottom. I recently added bogwood in the centre for natural effect and the fish are thriveing in it .
Tank Size: 17 gallons
Advice: Take your time to plan out what type of tank you want and the size. The fish should be evenly matched so one fish doesnt get all the food, get a good filtration pump so it minimizes cleaning also get an oxegen pump and lighting, but most of all have fun and enjoy being a fish keeper.

Quote: There is nothing to fear, but fear itself.
About Yourself: I started keeping fish at age 6. It all started with 2 orandas that my cousin won at a fair and was too lazy to take care of. From there I switched to tropical fish with fake plants, then back to goldfish, then I did tropical again, but kept the goldfish. Then I made my own pond and added koi. Then I got into cichlids, but I couldn't stand watching them fight and kill each other, so I started a reef tank. My first reef tank attempt was a total disaster. I ended losing more than $3000 worth of livestock. So I instead switched to a planted tank with discus and angels, and I still have them. So I still have a pond with koi & goldfish, a planted discus & angels tank and I started a reef tank again.
Fish Kept: Discus, Angels, 1 powder blue gouramis, 1 red fire gouramis, 1 honey gouramis, rasboras, a few platys, 3 swordtails, peppered corys, and mystery snails
Corals/Plants: anubias: coffeefolia, nana, & barteri -crypts: balansae, becketti, lutea, petchii, wenditi red & bronze, willisii, & ciliata - stem: anacharis, bacopa, cabomba purple, giant hygrophila, hair grass, lloydiella, moneywort, frill, ludwigia broadleaf & narrow, red temple, wisteria, water sprite -swords: amazon, marble queen, melon, dwarf chain, brazilian, ozelot - vallisneria- giant, red marble -other plants: onion plant, java moss, & white ribbon, dwarf sagittaria, & I have a few others that I forgot their names
Tank Size: 55 gallons
Advice: Be patient. Never ever buy sick fish, quarantine new fish always. Always rinse new pants. Keep your lights on for at least 10 hours a day, Co2 helps. Take a chance what doesn't work for other might work for you. Enjoy your tank!!!

About Yourself: Single with 3 boys. I thought (actually, my wife thought) a fish tank would be a great thing to have for our boys so we put one together Christmas Eve and told the boys we would all pick out a fish come New Year's. I am totally into this! I already want a 55 gallon saltwater but I don't see that happening for many years. Plus, I have to see if the five starter fish do OK.
Fish Kept: 1 Large Danio (Big Bucky) 1 Purple Passion Danio (Lightning) 1 Non-Aggressive Orange Cichlid 3 Black Tetras 1 Red Tailed Shark (Inky)
Corals/Plants: Driftwood (2 smaller pieces) rocks and plastic plants. I'll go live once the tank is acclimated. (I tried one live plant and it didn't survive so scratch that)
Tank Size: 20 gallons
Advice: Go to a really really good Aquarium shop. I wasn't happy with the giant pet places. Try to find a "aquatic only" store or two. I love Aquarium Adventure here in the Cleveland area. The staff there has been super helpful with all of my questions as well as having just about everything for aquariums under the sun. I recommend getting all of your starter fish from the same place.

Quote: Live every day as if it were your last, because tomorrow it might be! :-)
About Yourself: My husband actually got me into the hobby, he kept fish in college "back in the day" haha. He kept talking about it till it sparked my interest. Now I'm hooked, and I know more about it than he does! :-) Fish keeping/aquariums are relaxing, enjoyable and challenging, and I have found that fish really do have personalities. :-) I'm a stay at home mom and caretaker for my mother-in-law, so I really look forward to some quiet time with my fish. :-) Not to mention, a well maintained aquarium makes a house look twice as nice!
Fish Kept: angelfish, harlequin rasboras, gouramis, tetras, hatchetfish, pleco, otocinclus cats, peppered corys, etc.
Corals/Plants: several different types of live plants, not sure of all the names.
Tank Size: 75 gallons
Advice: Make sure you know which fish are compatible with each other. Don't just go with what looks good. Don't use fish to cycle your tank, no matter if they are "hardy" or not. Ammonia and nitrite, even at low levels, are very toxic to fish. It may not kill them immediately, but it does irreversible damage to their gills and membranes, and I'm sure it can't be very comfortable. Would you like to swim around in a swimming pool full of battery acid, even if it was just a "little bit"? Didn't think so! :-) Sure, cycling takes some time, but it's worth it to have healthy, happy fish in the long run. Patience is a virtue!! haha Test your water fairly often, just to make sure everything is okay. Make a maintenance schedule and keep up with it! Ammonia is one of the first things to look for when you start losing fish. Don't just blame the pet store for selling you sick fish! A good maintenance schedule will make your life (and your fish's) a lot easier in the long run. If you're not going to be 100% into this hobby, then don't even get started. It takes time, patience, a lot of work and some money to keep fish/aquariums successfully. If you barely have time for everyday things, you probably don't have time for fish, which isn't fair to them. You're responsible for the environment they live in, so if you neglect the tank, they suffer. It's not just as easy as adding fish to water and hoping everything works out.
