Rated #131: Saltwater Fish - Pterois Volitans - Volitan Lionfish Stocking In 65 Gallons Tank - Lionfish - The large dark one is a male (I think) and the smaller white one in the back is a female (I think) because they have "courted" each other many times.

Quote: Stop looking at me, I'm trying to be steathy!
Fish Kept: Too many to remember (haven't had a death for 2 years though - well apart from the little bluedevil damsel eaten by my big lionfish).
Corals/Plants: I'll get back to you on that one.
Tank Size: 65 gallons
Advice: Do not rush the water conditioning process. Many people (myself included) cannot wait to get more fish when they start, so they just add heaps of fish very quickly. This just messes up the water chem (too much ammonia) and the fish just die. So wait and don't put too many fish in at the beginning and don't ever put too many fish in at one time (wait at least 2 weeks between fish to let your filter(s) balance the new ammonia load). And wait at least 1 month for the tank to cycle (when you first set up the tank - at this time, DO NOT add any fish...you only need 1 or 2 damsels to help the cycling process...no more! or it will kill the process and make it longer). You need live rock and a protein skimmer, so get them fast. Oh and get a tank with a sump built in if you can afford it, it is really hard to add them later (I know). Lastly: Read, read, read and read...

About Yourself: Bit by the saltwater bug!
Fish Kept: Mated Pair of Snowflake Clown Fish, Yellow Tang, Royal Gramma, Flame Angel and a Rose Bubble Tip Anemone.
Corals/Plants: Various SPS, LPS, and Soft Corals.
Tank Size: 90 gallons
Advice: The bigger and longer the tank the better. Good water flow and a opened aquascape is a must in order to eliminate dead spots. A deep sand bed (minimum 4"), good quality live rock, powerfull skimmer, and a properly set up refugium with Macro Algae can help keep nitrates at 0 PPM, and water changes to a minimum. Read all marine keeping books, especially "The Reef Aquarium" Vol 1, 2, and 3. Last but not least, Dont shy away from this hobby on the first signs of trouble. Marine aquarium keeping gets easier and easier as the tank matures. If trouble arises, internet forums can be of great help when questions need answering.
