When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car.
About Yourself:
I am in college and wanted a pet i could care for mostly on the weekends and was relatively inexpensive, i have always liked watching fish and want to put together a decent mbuna tank.
Fish Kept:
I am experimenting around right now and am just trying to find what will and won't work with my given setup. Anything that bullies the tank too much will be traded in. That being said heres what I am keeping:
Pseudotropheus Saulosi - 2M, 4F
Melanochromis Auratus - 1M
Pseudotropheus Socolofi - 2M
Tropheops sp "yellow chin" - 1F
Cynotilapia afra - 1M, 1F
Synodontis nigriventris (Upside Down Catfish) - 6 Assorted
Busy Nose Pleco - 2
Corals/Plants:
None.
Tank Size:
75 gallons
Advice:
Don't try to mess with your PH if you are just entering the hobby, stick with fish that do well on your tap (get a PH measuring kit if you are unsure) . Over filtration is always better than under filtration, and lots of water changes make happy fish (just make sure to neutralize Chloramines).
Description:
This is my first African Cichlid tank. The fish are lake Malawi species with the exception of 2 Bushy Nose Plecs. I used about 150 lbs. of lace rock for all the caves and 120 Ibs. of Aragonite substrate. Photo taken about a month after setup.
