I had my first tank 25 years ago however at the university period I stop keeping fish. After the university again I start with a small tank 25 gallon and I moved to bigger ones and now I have 100 gallon tank. I am a medical doctor and this hobby takes me to different world when I watch them or working on the aquarium.

Advice:
be patient, read much.
Overloaded tanks are not good for the fishes.
Buy the biggest tank that you can effort.
Use the high quality equipment for your tank.
High quality = economy
Change the water regularly.
Be careful when you are adding a new fish to the tank (origins of the fishes are important)

Advice:
Been keeping fish for about 2 years. Make sure you do weekly water changes and check for water parameters are in safe levels. Buy a tank big enough for the fish as they grow. Also research fish so you don't get major aggression issues. I have 3 snoody mid-sized cichlids. They all get along alright, except the Green Texas Cichlid gets chased around a lot.
