Advice: Use the rich resources of the internet, try to find previously answered questions but never be afraid to ask what you can't find. Also, find a good fish shop and pick their brains. I say this because you WILL need someone to call at some stage (rather than just the internet)

Corals/Plants: No live plants or corals yet
Tank Size: 125 gallons
Advice: I`m not one to offer advice other than have fun and don`t be afraid to experiment. Some will say you can`t do this or that and these fish can`t be kept together but you can try and perhaps figure out a way they can live peacefully. I`ve done it and I`ve failed but I`ve done it and succeeded too.

Quote: never say it can't be done!
About Yourself: Loved aquarium since I was a little kid. straight up typical tanks with swordfish, mollies tetra's were good in the beginning but as my tank grew from 10 to 20gal to 100 and now 200 gal so did my appetite for more exotic stuff. Now I want exotic but easily maitained colorful and active tanks. Key word here is active tank. Cichlids will do that for you.
Fish Kept: Chichlids all types ! The more the merrier. So long as your tank is big enough and you provide lots of hidding spots it's great !
Corals/Plants: None Chichlids will destroy them all. So just a few plastic plants.
Tank Size: 200 gallons
Advice: Don't be afraid to experiment and or change direction. If it does not work for you or your desires then move on till it does. For years I fought and fought the ever evolving battle against a cool Reef Tank. Salt and Reef the Ultimate was indeed beutiful yet too expensive and time consuming for me. In the end everything would slowly die off. and I did everything. Chiller, uv light, halogen, awsome protein skimmers, compact florecents. You name it I tried it. I simply realized I was supporting the removal of precious widlife from our oceans only to let them die. Then I turned to Cichlids a very colorful bunch to say the least and active all the time voracious eaters never shy and actually very healthy ! My latest change from a pebble base with plastic rocks to Holley rock and sugar sand which resembles a nice ocean sand simply did it for me. ! I think it's a nice compramise on salt vs tropical.

Quote: Are you a chemist? Then stop futzing with the chemicals.
About Yourself: I'm an actor which means I wait tables. I had a cat for 19 years who died & I wanted to try another pet.
Fish Kept: See above plus a betta I now keep in the 3 gallon with a couple minnows I liberated from the feeders going into the mouths of the big boys in the 37. I feed everybody a mixture of live, frozen, & dry foods.
Corals/Plants: Grass, Cabomba, Mayaca, Hornwort, Egia Nana, Hydra Hottenflora, Madagascar Lace, bamboo, broadleaves, & ferns.
Tank Size: 37 gallons
Advice: I'm a beginner but the best advice I got was to stop futzing with the chemicals & just let the tank be. Although I did discover that the natural driftwood leaches out the ph so you have to keep an eye on that. The bigger the tank, the easier it equalized out. I'd have the 10 gallon looking great & clean for a few days but then it would get cloudy & then suddenly, bam. Crystal clear. When your tank decides to kick into it's natural rhythm, it's almost startling. I've also found out the hard way how easy it is to overstock the tank, feed them too much, & who doesn't play well with who. It's a lot of research. Look up what you like online & then buy your fish prepared. I asked the guys in the pet shop & apparently, nobody knows what they're talking about in the stores. Half the time they don't even know what fish they're selling you & will give you a butterfly loach for a pleco. They do look alike, though. But I've found the best advice in books & online. Do your homework or be prepared to make a lot of mistakes like me. Frequent water changes of a 1/4 to a 1/3 every 2 weeks, try not to feed them too much, & pretty much leave it alone. Just watch.
