44 gallons planted tank (mostly live plants and fish) - This pic is at 4 weeks old. Plants doing very well in the Tetra Complete substrate (with sand and grit) and feeding once a week with Nutrafin Plant Gro. 08-12-07 (8 weeks) - will need to get a new pic as the plants are much bigger now. The Star Grass on the rear left has been chopped back once already.

Description: Fluval Roma 200 tank (came with all the bits needed)
Advice: I lost 2 tetras in December 07. Lots of gasping from them and then death. Had a chat with the LFS and got my water checked out. I was advised to treat the tank with ‘eSHa Exit’ as the water looked fine, but the gasping could be a sign of a parasite. A week after treatment all the fish are much more active and look so much brighter! Always take your time and use plenty of towels!

I am getting advice off the forums from brandon (poetic_ irony and another person) and they didnt really know what I wanted my tank to look like so I put a pic or your tank on my profile. O course I made it so it wouldnt be rated but I am hopign for mine to turn out as stunning as yours. fish avatar

Mike. Thanks for the comment. This is the first planted tank I've created. I used to keep fish some 20 years ago, but thought it about time to get back into the hobby. My advice is... get the substrate right, feed the plants weekly and do your maintenance on time. I spend a few minutes each day looking for bits of the plants that are dying, or that need chopping back. If I do a tank again I'll not use sand, but go for a dark gravel. The sand is too much effort to keep clean, but does look good. I am a long way off the top 10 of planted tanks as those tanks take a lot of effort, and of course CO2 injection. I'm happy with my first attempt, but am learning all the time. fish avatar
I love your tank, but I am in a bit of a pickle. I was either goign to start a plantedn or an african cichlid tank. What is some advice that you can give me about planted aquariums? fish avatar
