State: Maryland
Country: United States
Description: 120 gallon, 48"lx24"wx25"h, Filtration: Fluval FX5 canister filter (filters up to 400gal.), Fluval 404 (filters up to 100 gal.) Perfectaflow undergravel filter powered by a 1 powerhead and a Coralluft 38liter per minute airpump. Lighting is a quad 48" 54watt per bulb programmable fixture with four blue LEDs for nightlights. I homebuilt the stand and hood in my garage (and reinforced the floor under the tank as well!) I applied a black background for a clean look. I wanted the tank to look natural, but artistic and symmetrical as well.
Advice: filtration, filtration, filtration. Always use more or better filters than recommended. I never check water quality and rarely clean my tank, because I keep hardy fish and grossly overfilter. ****Buy supplies like filters, lighting, ect. off of the internet/ebay--MUCH cheaper! Make sure to cycle the tank for a month before serious stocking begins. I use "expendable" feeder fish like rosy reds and goldfishin the early stages.
Fish Kept: All locally harvested native fish- Largemouth bass, black crappie, bluegill, freshwater eel, crayfish, suckers, dace, golden clams, and even a painted turtle. The only things storebought are the snails and the plants. Harvesting these specimens is an adventure in itself, you never know what you'll end up with.
Corals/Plants: various plants that looked interesting from the fish store.
Tank Size: 120 gallons
Quote: Native tanks are the best
