Description: 55 gallon freshwater tank with a mix of American cichlids and a random African one. Running twin Marineland 350 filters and a 200 watt heater. Marineland LED hoods. As far as the deco goes I have coraline substrate, a hollow driftwood stump (which the oscar has set up shop in) and a hand built slate rock formation. I'm trying to keep it as natural as possible and want to do a 3D background at some point.
Advice: Do your research, check forums and websites and find a good place to buy your livestock and stick with them. Try and buy everything around the same size, so there isn't an unfair advantage in the tank, at least not in the beginning!
Fish Kept: 1 Tiger Oscar, 4 Juvenile Texas Cichlids (waiting for two of them to pair off), 1 Jaguar Cichlid and 1 Jewel Cichlid and 1 Pleco about double the size of all of them so he doesn't die.
Corals/Plants: 1 Amazon Sword, random floating palnt and various plastic plants.
Tank Size: 55 gallons
Quote: Just throw them all in together, observe and take the mean ones out!
About Yourself: Started off with a 1 gallon betta tank. Moved on to a 5 gallon, now I have a 55 and 20 gallon. Been wanting to do a larger tank for years, took six years off from the hobby while I was in the Air Force. Now that I have the time and won't be going anywhere soon I've decided to finally give cichlids a shot ;)
