55gal work in progress... i just changed over from gravel to sand. the gravel was trapping too much waste and was too much work. i spent some time scouting a local retaining wall and got a couple larger rocks, the rest of the plants and log are fake.
Advice:
ask, ask, ask

all fake plantings with a little live duck weed floating from time to time
