Description: I believe the tank measures 12x38x23. The stand is custom built by Allen Brothers (716-381-3520). There were six different kinds of woods used in the construction of this stand. (Red mahogany, maple, brazilian cherry, american cherry, pine and various cuts of oak.) There will also be panes of frosted glass inserted in the centers of all the doors as well as on the sides of the stand and canopy. There will also be lights installed in the stand so when both the canopy and stand lights are illuminated, they will shine through the frosted glass. I am currently using a 50/50 (6000k/Actinic) and a 10000k Metal Halide. I find the actinic tends to bring out the vibrant shades of blues and violets often lost with basic lighting. For filtration I am temporarily using a 400 series Emperor. I plan to upgrade to the Magnum 350 Bio Pro System.
Advice: 86ºF seems to work great with plants and Discus. Water changes should be done regularly. More often if you don't have sufficient filteration. Discus require a very clean environment. 10k Metal Halide lighting seems to work great for plants.
Fish Kept: There are two larger Red Turquoise Discus and one new baby Brilliant Turquoise Discus. One Ornate Cory Cat and one Skunk Cory Cat (bottom feeders-great vacuum for discus!). Two Orange Bee Shrimp.
Corals/Plants: There are many assortments of plants that I've tried to include in this tank. Amazon swords, Hornwort, Telanthera Rosefolia, Ludwigia Peruensis, and Wendtii Bronze are just a few. There are many more to come!
Tank Size: 45 gallons
