Description:
45 gal. tall. Homemade hood w/ moonlights. Hot Magnum, Magnum 350 and bio-wheel filters. Can't have too much filtration.
Advice:
Get as large a tank as you can afford because you'll just end up getting a bigger one later. I get alot of my equipment (filters, air pumps etc.) from garage sales. I paid less than $30.00 for my filters! Also, things like decorative rock and substrate can be purchased at landscape supply for very cheap. I also saved quite a bit of cash by making my stand and hood myself.
Fish Kept:
Convicts, Australian Rainbows, 2 Jack Dempseys, Black Skirt Tetras, Texas Cichlids, Striped Raphael Catfish and 1 unknown Cichlid. I know I have too many fish, but my old tank started leaking and I only had the cash for this tank! Planning on getting at least a 75gal. tank in the near future.
Corals/Plants:
Fake plants. Sandstone and slate from landscape supply.
Tank Size:
45 gallons
About Yourself:
50 yr. old male. Retired/disabled truck driver. Been into the hobby off and on for about 25 yrs. Some really nice set-ups here. I got a lot of good ideas for my tank.

Setting up a new aquarium is an exercise in restraint that many hobbyists, both beginners and seasoned veterans, find difficult to master.
For decades, the gold standard of the home aquarium was a pristine, crystal-clear box of water, often decorated with neon gravel and plastic plants that bore little resemblance to the wild.
