UPDATED: 20 gallon Community tank, my favorite tank! Male & female mated Bolivian Rams, 2 guppy's, 2 Angels, 2 Otto cats, and 2 African Dwarf frogs . Live plants: Java Moss, Amazon Swords, Anubias Nana, Java Fern, & Melon Sword. The Java Moss is tied to a piece of real Mopani drift wood, The big Amazon Sword is the focal point. Fake plants in the back corners & playground sand for substrate. |
| About Yourself: |
I had a fish tank when my kids were little, but they were "kid" tanks, with all the colors. A year ago my son gave me his 20 gallon setup and I made it into a natural one, like I had always wanted. The fish bug bit! I then got another tank with Birchardies, then a few weeks ago still another! I can't seem to stop! But I love them so much and they are so fascinating to watch. |
| Advice: |
Read all you can about a type of fish you are thinking about! Do your research first!!
If you need to keep the Ph high, try putting crushed coral in jars at the back of the tank and mesh bags of it in the filters. Or use as substrate. |
| Fish Kept: |
2 Bolivian Rams, 2 African Dwarf Frogs, 2 Fancy Guppies, 2 Oto Cats, 4 Electric Yellow labs, 4 Acei's, 4 Red Zebra and a good number of fry all the time. |
| Plants Kept: |
Amazon Swords, Melon Swords, Anubias Nanas, Mystery Swords, Red Rubin and Ruffle plant. and a couple tall fake plants in the back. |
| Tank Size: |
20 |
| Description: |
20 Gallon: Community Tank with Bolivian Rams & assorted tank mates. 10 Gallon: holds fry and holding females. 30 Gallon: Lake Malawi African Mbuna Cichlids.

30 gal amazon biotope (photo taken before addition of fish)
|
| About Yourself: |
I first got into planted aquariums about seven years ago after my plant ravaging silver dollars died. I gave up the hobby for a few years after a move, and am just getting back into it. I'm fascinated by the Amazon and most everything in my tank is native to that river. Unfortunately i live in an area with very hard water and i mostly rely on filtering through peat granules to bring the Ph down a little bit. |
| Advice: |
Make frequent water changes and avoid unnecessary chemicals. Don't over crowd the fish and keep schooling fish in schools. |
| Fish Kept: |
neon tetras, cory catfish |
| Plants Kept: |
vallisneria, amazon swords, frog bit and chain swords among others |
| Tank Size: |
30 |
| Description: |
30 gallon freshwater planted tank, Fluval 205 canister filter plus a hanging Whisper power filter that i use to filter the water through peat granuals. Substrate is Eco Complete. |
