I bought my first ten gallon a year and a half ago. Today, i have four successful freshwater tanks ranging from 10 to 75 gallons, spanning about 10 different species of tetra, angel and rainbow fish, as well as reptiles, amphibians and inverts.
All of my tanks are densely planted, clean, attractive, low-budget tanks with homemade lighting fixtures, processed natural gravels and sands.

Of course, my first tank had blue and pink gravel and purple plastic plants in it. thats why my first three neons died. You live and you learn, and come to grips with the fact that the more accurately you recreate a natural environment, the more stable your tank becomes, and the more self-sustaining your entire system works.

Today, i use not a single fake plant/rock/decoration, by personal choice.
And when i rate pictures of younger or less experienced members, i know that my vote needs to be realistic, yet encouraging, because i was there a year ago, and i cant imagine what i will learn in the next 50 years i plan to keep aquariums.

Pay your respects to people with the experience and knowledge, visible through their beautiful tanks, but also know that these people didnt come out the womb, winning the ADA.
I love this website, because its nice to see what other people are up to, for inspiration, guidance and comparison.

I think we should all take the same thing away from this thread. If you can't handle the ratings you should probably:

a) Make your tank look nicer
b) Make it look shittier
c) Buy a pre-setup tank aquascaped by Takashi Amano
d) Take your business elsewhere because: YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH.

That is all.
