Same shit i'm battling! Looks like moss only instead of hanging down it floats straight up off the rock... Since i started attacking the rocks with a toothbrush and spare powerhead i've noticed that it's coming back much slower..

you guys are still doing weekly water changes...?
i started dosing vodka along with MB7 from brightwell... along with the vinegar/kalk mix, i do water changes once every 2-3 months and about 15 gallons...
my tank is super stable and my sps love it... even my chalice grow like crazy and that's weird...
i recommend upgrading to ELOS test kits and dose accordingly...

elos test kits are crazy expensive - -but VERY nice kits
your dealing with bubble algae not diatom - -high nutrieants and lighting are the main cause . . water changes, watch the feeding, did either of you add anything fish, corals etc? fast large bio load increases with make a tank go into a tailspin too
cut your lights back to the bare minimum for a few weeks

also good circulation is key... the reason is more flow thru your rocks the better the biological filtration you get...

I did go hog wild on coral a few months ago and it started up some time after that. I've moved a few powerheads around and added 2 that move more water through the rocks. I think i'm heading in the right direction just have to get the new bulbs...

i added a sixline wrasse about 2 weeks ago, first fish ive gotten in 2 or 3 months, no corals, feed the fish once a night, one cube of hakari, i think thats the brand. I dont want my corals to suffer but how many hours do i turn my lights down to? like 5 hours ?
