holy crap . . . .i went to friend of mines house today to look at a tank he's selling and i was looking at his stand, all enclosed with a 1 inch sheet pf plywood that the tank sits on it has 4 supports in the back and 4 in the front - - -sounds ok right ???

WRONG !!! it's a 30 inch deep 8 foot long 300 gallon acrylic...i about shit on his new floor............................he put loly columns in the basement to support the floor but jeeesh that stand is scary

he says it's a factory stand designed specifically for that tank, but wow - - -i would have used 6x6 beams in there and a lot more than the 8 2x4 s they used

Boss

watch putting angle braceing in...........only becuase where ever they land in the stand is where you are directing the weight.......so in theory a week corner with an angle brace added to it --------is actually weeker

yup.............................lol

yes both - - -i would sister everything in there

sister= screw the same piece to it i.e sistering a 2x5 rafter is glueing and screwing another 2x6 to the exsisting one - - -that should double up the capacity - -

hey if a 300 gallon tank in the 2800 to 3000 lb range can stand on 8 2x4's anything you do can only help right ....lol

Vertical pressure applied in a downward motion, on timber with the grain running vertical, i think would be the strongest.
Have you ever done the can trick. Slowly and gently stand on the coke can, taking your weight of the ground. That thin aluminium can support a fully grown man. Strange but true
As well get an egg and put it between your hands point to point i mean like long ways. and push as hard as you can.. You can break it
same thing applies to timber. weak one way strong the other........
Do the egg test outside, just incase.

Well, maybe I can add two more braces to the back the back wall. That should be plenty. Im going to pick up the tank today. :) WOOO!!!! But I work 48 hours this week and I have finals in college. So nothing will be getting done for at least the next two weeks.

I wish it was a vacation week for me! I would love more hours! But with school.....everything else comes second. I have to get the piece of paper that says i can comprehend what is said to me. I picked it up today though. And im somewhat pissed off at myself. I cracked the outter rim of the trim on the top of the tank. Its in the back right of the aqaurium.......and it wont hurt anything, its just cosmetic......But it still sucks. My lfs owner couldnt find the ballast to the light.....GAY. So im waiting on him to find it, or get me one. Thats a pic of the tank......found it on someones photo bucket......but its the Exact tank that I bought. After finals im going to go full blast on getting the new one up and running.
