Plecos in LA park lake

by Peterkarig3210

I was fishing in a local lake at Balboa park with my son in the Sanfernando valley, which is fed with reclaimed sewage water, and had a look in one of the buckets the other fishermen had, and along with mostly tilapia there were a few 8 inch plecos. I guess this lake is a favorite place to get rid of aquarium fish that get too big.

Just thought this was interesting. The guy who caught them was planning on eating them.

The tilapia are in the millions it seems. These guys were using nets and scooping up bucket loads of 6-10 inch tilapia as well as the plecos. They're probably fine to eat but I don't like fish that much.

God knows. All I know is that they were intending on eating them. The plecos looked exactly the size and type of common pleco I have, 8 inches and a few of em.

I've had Trader Joes tilapia filets and they are pretty tasty that way.

I'll try anything once...But any raw seafood I will never touch. I've seen too many television shows about parasites.
Anyways that's crazy about the plecos in LA. Imagine the damage I could with releasing my Toadfish into the Hudson River.
