2.5 frag tank

by fihsboy

Im thinking about putting my 2.5 to good use. I have 20 watts over it...so im thinking about making it into a frag tank. Any suggestions? I just want to frag and grow ricordea...that way I dont have to worry about nutrients in the water. I MIGHT throw a damsel in there to feed the ricordea. Filter? Powerhead? any ideas are glady welcomed! It has crushed coral in it right now...but if i leave it fishless..It wouldnt matter. Im thinkin about going with sand though or bare bottom.

If you really want to do a frag tank I would say go with a 10gallon. I mean with a 2.5 gallon, depending on how often your frag or how much you have to frag you could be looking at losing hundreds of dollars of livestock with a small spike or if your heater stops working. IMO there are way to many things that can go wrong in that small of a tank. I have some zoas and sps that are worth over 50$ a polyp or 90$ an inch, and for me to lose them over being too cheap to do a reasonable sized tank would eat at me for a long time!

You're right Clownfish, there's many thing can go wrong in such small system. But Fishboy also mentioned that he only want to frag rics in that tank. + don't forget it is a frag only tank. The mother colony will stay in the main tank, so if something's go wrong he'll still have the big chunk.IMO

why not just frag the ric and put it in your DT tank...or just make a magfloat into a DIY frag rack
