well i would buy a UV if i could afford it. They will take care of killing bacteria in your tank, the downside is that all the bacteria that enters will be killed. So if you set it up make sure it is at the end of the mechanical filtration or else it will kill all of the good bacteria that clings to your sponge or whatever media you use. It will also kill ich so that in itself is a good enough reason to get one. Oh and another great reason is that you will never need to worry about algae blooms and crap. So keep it and hook that sucker up. Pet stores use them so there you go. You'll never have to worry so much about adding new fish to your tank.

cool advice jweb. My huge item I get for the tank will be a UV. I want to first rearrange the right side of the tank to make it more of a natural habitat look with rocks, bogwood, plants and a waterfall. After all that, UV is next.

it doesn't not kill enough biological bacteria to make a difference... you have biological filtration in the tank decor and filters right...? how's it going to kill all of that...? that doesn't make sense...

Is it ok to use one when first setting up the tank? Or should you wait a month or so to let the bacteria build up?
