Feeding ants to fish?

by MonkeyChunks

Can ants be safely fed to the fishes? I want to get an ant farm and I wonder if there are too many ants can I feed them to the guppies?

I saw a fly fall into my aquarium and the fish at it.

I once fed an ant to my goldfish and it latched onto the fish's gill. We had to "opperate" and extract it with pliers. He lived for 7 year!

I would not feed fish ants. there is too much risk. why don't you just make sea monkeys =D

you can feed minced up earrthworms from your garden as long as you clean them real good. I have about 5 live earthworms in the gravel, never harmed the water quality...fish love fruit flies and mealworms too

ants? best keep your ants in an ant farm

Earthworms staying alive under water?

I had a big blow fly die in one of my tanks and it kept laying lil maggot eggs one after the other for like a whole day and the fish ate em up like jellybeans.

Hey, just to add on this thread... is there a type of small animal, say something similar to the daphnia or Brine shrimp that I can constantly breed without having to use a new batch of eggs? What about fruit flys and how does that work?

fruit flies is easy, you should get some apples from some crappy looking store or even safeway. Leave it in open air for maybe a day. Then the fruitflies should have laid their maggots there. Then you put it in a jar and cover the jar with a very fine net. The f lies should appear inside.

The problem is catching the flies and feeding them. I dont kinwo how you would kil them without pesticide and feed them to fish.
