| About Yourself: |
farther kept fish when i was a child in a 6'x2'x2', we had two huge snakeheads that would eat a small child lol, after that a red tail cat, then grew a 3' arrowana. then after 15 years the tank broke and we ended up swiming, then turned the tank around and put a snake in it,
p.s for 2 year the juvenile snakeheads were in a 4' tank at the bottom of my bed till i started getting wet in the night(my feet wet from the larger fish going mad in the night, not bed wetting you understand) |

| Advice: |
Track nitrates, phosphates and chelated iron and dose what is necessary for plants at least once a week. Check PH every day if dosing CO2. Use dry chemicals to save money, KNO3 (nitrates and potassium), K2SO4 (potassium), Fleet enema (phosphates), CSM+B (traces), epsom salts (magnesium). Inject CO2 and have 4 watts per gallon of light. Use SAE, farlowella, flag fish, ottos, molly to clean algae while starting up. Use UV sterilizer to avoid green water and have crystal clean water. Fill aquarium with water until water line is not visible to avoid calcium deposits on glass. Use plain polyfill pillow stuffing for filter floss, you don't need anything else in canister filter.

| About Yourself: |
I am 23 with a daughter whos almost two. I have always loved aquariums and fish and ahve kept many species but only recently started plaanted tanks. For so long i was put out with the idea of spending so much to grow plants but now i know you dont need to. And with a little time, trial and error and basically no income, i have a great tank!I am working on a planted 29 gallon now. |
| Advice: |
You will sometimes find conflicting advice on keeping planted tanks(particularly lighting) but i have found that trial and error works well and you dont have to spend a lot to have lush plants. eg. my shop light! |
| Fish Kept: |
6 white cloud mt. minnows,1 rhinohorn goby, 3-4 pond minnows including sticklebacks a baby creek chub and a white sucker fry that will be moved to a larger tank as they grow.various snails, ghost shrimp, and 2 ottocinclus. |
| Plants Kept: |
Hygrofila difformis, red lotus, native hair grass, mystery native dwarf sword type plants, crypt undulatta, cardinal plant, native large leaf pondweed. native Riccia fluitans, native ludwigia repens.lemna minor, small bits of chara or native muskgrass. |

| Description: |
20 gallon planted tank. My first planted tank. Having a limited income, many of the plants are native to michigan where i live. It has a 4 ft shop light over it and a ten gallon beside it.The light has two 32 watt white bulbs.(6500k) I dose with flourish excell evey other day. The substrate is a mix with iron made at a local mom and pop fish shop.No heating.(my home stays pretty warm) A cheap wal mart hang on filter for circulation and biological management though the plants do most of the filtering. |

| About Yourself: |
Got attracted viewing those fabulous planted tanks on this website and since a neighbour had bequeth this huge tank to me, I thought of trying one myself. My tank is nearly 6 months old and I had learnt to keep algae at bay with fewer larger fishes but still learning as I go along. Hope to add on more foreground plants later on. |
| Advice: |
Get the basics right to save time and money. Certain plants require more light to thrive better. Included a pink tube lighting in addition to day light tubes for better plant growth and fish appeal. Also water kept at higher KH to better absorp CO2. Water changes 30% every 2 weeks now (getting lazy). Feed fishes twice daily. Some water clarifying powder between filter sponges has amazing efficacy in clarifying tank water, lessening the need for frequent water changes. Realised that Java moss don't thrive too well in high KH water, so added KH + sparingly. Also plants seem to thrive well without daily dose of adding of CO2 after some time. |

Neon tetras, pleco, chinese loach, glowlight tetras, corydoras albino , zebra danio, variety of guppies, orange platties. |
