nitrates 5 ppm... woohoo miami your slap should have come earlier!!! god i feel like a moron... i knew something wasnt clickin... glad i redid my test... now i gotta do a water change... poor fish... thanks dude for the wake up call

spongebob.. liquid test kits are only good for 6 months once opend.after that they could be giving you false readings..

yes i was not shaking the bottle or the tube long enough nor hard enough... i didn't think i had to go balistic on it. My kit is about a month old, so its fresh. I'm sure i was cycled, but was wondering why tests were coming out odd for nitrates. Anyway, about to do water change, my poor angels have been swimming in filth.

yes thanks as well Peter, ugh now i can concentrate on my fish... im actually about to take another water test after doing a nice good water change of about 40%. I wanna see if my ph will remain steady after my ammonia stays at zero.

Good luck. It should be pretty easy to keep it stable with all you learned in this process! I'm sitting next to my 35 gallon long that has 2.5 bags of plant growing medium and a gorgeous stump of some heavy dark wood ready to go in. I'm almost ready to get it started and I think I'll probably skip the idea of the UGF. I've got 100's of baby mosquito fish and tilapia ready too.
