My maingano are fed a protein pellet as their main diet, supplimented with algae disks, shrimp pellets, fish flakes.
They have awesome colours

wow very nice pic mine are like that too, must be good quality what percent are you protein pellets??? i feed my cichlids the similar, protein twice a week and shrimp every other day and a little flakes in between to mix it up my pellets are 70% protein and the rest is mixed with algae wafers and vegie matter made by my breeder...

Alright I'm done arguing....I wouldn't be taking advice from just one website. I guess the only advice I'd say/give is to research, research, and then research more when it comes to african cichlids. If the high protien diet works, than have at it......I wouldn't personally do it but best of luck!

I'm not arguing at all, was just stating what my fish are fed and have been for the years i've had them :)
