I hate under gravel filters. Gunk gradually builds up underneath them and you have to periodically break them down (ie take out all the gravel and remove the filters) and clean it all out. I've never bought a tank new, so can't speak on whether or not you got a good deal, but congratulations. Should be a lot of fun.

I dont mind the UGF. They require maintenance same as any other filter. You do not need to fully pull the tank down periodically. Just slip tubing down the uplift pipes and syphon out the gunk. Also when doing a water change do a deep clean of the gravel.
Sound pretty good for the pricing

you'll also need liquid test kits for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and a temperature stick on....what's another $30.00?

by the way, a red ear slider in a tank this huge with fish is a big no no unless you get fish that will not become a meal or the turtle not becoming a meal
also, a red ear slider needs a basking floater device..................my best advice, get a 20 gallon long for the turtle and get some fish (about 2 or 3) hardy fish like zebra danios or cherry barbs to begin the cycling
do you understand the term: cycling?
