new piece of drift wood

Hey i went down to the ocean today and found a nice little tree stump. Im soaking it in hot water tonight to leech the salt out of the wood. Any recomindations on adding it to my tank ?

If its tall. put it right in the middle. Nothing like a good piece to be the main focus of the tank. Pluse it kinda divides the tank up so your fish might feel like they have a little more space.

yeah i want to put it in the middle i'm just waiting for it to quite soaking tonight. It's going to be a nice center piece. As soon as all the salt is leeched from the wood.

yeah boil it on the stove for 2 hours then place it in a large pail or basin, in cold water, for about a week...then you should be good to go

Yes, if you can boil it.
I would let it soak in water for a week ONLY because it has salt on it.
When you are sure the salt is out, than put it in your tank.

yeah i soaked it hot water yeasterday, and boiled it today. Now it's sitting in a cooler full of water in my backyard. one week to go.

Yea I've got giant 4', 2'x18", and a 12"x20"x8" and I barely have any tannins releasing in my water salt leeching into your water may have been a good thing soften your water idk. Just keep an eye on it. I don't really know anything I just throw shit in there and see what happens.

so i added a difrent piece of drift wood into my tank. I've had this piece in my backyard for a while and it looked like a good addition to the tank. I boiled it, and soaked it in water for three days before adding it to the tank. So far so good, but is it going to through my ph off?

it may lower the ph, but as long as the ph does not go under 6.0, you should be okay...if it does influence the ph, it won't be too drastic

suggestion: once a week for 8 weeks you should test the water for ph (liquid test kit is best, more accurate)...if there are no extreme fluctuations during those tests for 8 weeks, you will be fine - ph between 6.0 to 8.0 most fish can live with, if the ph goes below 6.0 or above 8.0 then you should be concerned
