Need help on making a rock wall background

epic fail on the background. Everything came out nice until i glazed. Supper shinny. Tank is only going to be half water so you'll be able to tell a lot. Plus this supper glaze turned all my colors that i painted extremely dark. the wall looks only black now.
Tried to make to independent pieces not glued down but they float! i can glue one down but the other might have to insert snaps the hold it to the glued rock wall. Wanted to hide the filter with a removable piece.
Lastly bought too small of a filter. Its only pumps 45 gph. just found one that is 135gph but its 25 more bucks and i think its bigger and might not fit in the area ive designated for the filter.
Trial and error. Ill get it. Has anyone had luck making a rock wall and not covering the quick dry cement? that's what im gona try on my next 10 gal.
