Brown algae forming

I just recently set up my 125 gallon tank and Im noticing brown algae all over my gravel and plants. How do I get rid of it and why is that caused and how do I get rid of it??? I've had tanks for a longtime and never had a problem. I'm running high output lighting would that be the cause?? Please help! Thanx

Brown algae frequently occurs in newly set up tanks, so don't be overly concerned. It thrives on high nitrates and phosphates so check those levels. Frequent water changes and thorough gravel cleanings could be all you need. There are also chemicals you can buy to control phosphates if you think its that bad. The lights might have some affect, but brown algae has been known to occur in low lit tanks as well (my tank lights suck and I had brown algae when my tank first started.)

You can get yourself some brown algae eaters like the otto cats. They love that stuff and will eat it up.
