How deep is your well? If it is quite deep, it wont have any oxygen in it and need to be aerated well before adding anything to it. Also how did the fish behave? Were they near the top of the tank? where their fins clamped, were the gills red and irritated?

Not sure about this but it sounded like this change was all done less than a day. I thought you're supposed to give the tank time to cycle. 5 Gallons to 15 gallons is a big difference. I'ved done that mistake but even bigger. I changed my Oscars from their 55 gallon to a 150 Gal tank. I even waited for two days. When I added my fish the next day the water was all cloudy like some algae bloom of some sort. Now, I will always wait atleast two weeks or more for the tank to cycle in a new tank. Better safe than sorry.
