Just a thought, but why don't you try taking some of the water to an aquarium store and check the results there?

It'd be free, and it could be that you do have high nitrates. If the results are the same then you'd be saving $$$ for a new test kit you don't need.

Sorry if I missed something in this thread pertaining to this.

holy shit i just remembered, i did take it to my lfs store once before, about 5 months ago, they said my nitrates were "fine" but i didnt get an exact number, i know they use the test strips though

I'd do it again. I'm a bit upset that my nitrates seem to have climed from around 15 (just after the change) to obviously something too high so quickly.

It's a major operation to change my 100 gallon fresh water planted tank.

I guess I'll throw some $$$ into a python soon.

if you dont have the cash for a python go to a hard wear stor and pick up a camper hose thay work the same you just have to start the spyphen. just make shore it has stainless steel ends and not copper. you can git it for about 20$ insted of 60
