the only advice i can say is get something which reads what temperate the water is at, due to one of my thermometers breaking in the past and kept heating and heating the water without me knowing to nearly 50c killing nearly all my fish lucky i spotted it as the glass was starting to steam up and didnt think this was right :/ oh well you live and learn
