I use hikari algae wafers and mine seems to like them. I tried giving him cucumber but my cichlids just eat it before he does.

Since when do common plecos eat tetra flakes?

Slice a piece of zucchina? and squash, weight it down to some weight like fishing lead or brass and they will eat all the inside up and leave the yellow or green ring overnight.

OK....I've-heard-of-using-vegatables.....I-just-wanted-a-staple-I-didn't-have-to-keep-fresh-in-the-fridge.

I'll-use-zucchini-and-other-veggies-when-I-have-them,-but-I-only-have-a-toaster-oven-for-cooking-and-basicly-live-on-a-few-simple-healthy-foods-at-the-moment......I'm-a-great-cook,-and-when-my-son-comes-to-visit-I'll-get-another-camp-stove-and-we'll-be-back-into-the-home-cooked-veggies-again......REI-said-they'd-take-my-old-stove-and-replace-it-for-free.

Other than that, mine love the algae wafers. I have 2 that are 12 and 15 inches long, and they suck up about 8 tablets a night along with 6 mystery snails a gold nugget pleco.

if you dont want to keep fresh keep frozen and canned veggies, just make sure you give them a good rinse
