I get bored looking at super awesome tanks after a while so it's been a while since I've even looked at the highest rated tanks.
I prefer that with planted tanks there is some empty space to add contrast to the plants. When there's plants growing from the bottom to the top in the front it's way too overgrown.

I don't see why it would be "wrong" to have nicely planted fake plants in the planted section myself.
