Your Brown Algae is likely Diatom Algae. It's an indicator of unstable water conditions. Very common in newly set up tanks. Eventually green algae will overtake the Diatom.
In the mean time, less light, careful feeding, and manuel elimination of the Diatom is about all you can do.
