Help identifying tetra

by friend_of_fish

There's these tetra that I can't figure out the ID on. They're fairly large (but then I'm used to small tetras) and they're silvery in color. I don't have a picture right now but will see if I can get one later since I'm sure this isn't a very good description lol. They also have some red on them somewhere, I think. But mostly they're silvery and fast moving. Kind of boisterous too. Not really like any tetra I'm used to but I'm sure they are one, they're the right body shape and everything for tetra.

Or maybe discus tetra?

I'm thinking maybe the Buenos aires tetra?

Lemon tetras are also quite big I believe, but they shouldn't be silver colored....possibly could be if they were sick though. I think they lose their bright coloring when they get sick.

Oooh I want to join in on the guessing game! Could it be a silvertip tetra?

I don't have any suggestions - not any that haven't already been said anyway - but let us know when you find out the ID :)

Thanks guys, you've been a big help! I think your first guess was right Kate. Comparing pictures on the internet with them, they do look like buenos aires tetras. After the comparing, it's the only tetra that has come even close to fitting so I think it's a match :)

That's great! I thought it sounded like a buenos aires!
Glad you have an ID of them now.
