What helps with a snail overpopulation problem?

Is it a myth that water changes help?

If you use the gravel vac at the same time that should help because it'll remove any uneaten food that the snails will eat and allow their population to grow.

The gravel vac also removes a lot of baby snails. There are
several varieties of fish that will absolutely thrash snails, juvenile convicts and festae cichlids.
Last year, after adding plants, had a snail invasion in my 65 gal. Grow out tank. Shortly there after I purchased several of the above listed cichlids. Within a week no more snails.

No, I don't think water changes by themselves exactly help with controlling the snail population but like the other posters have explained, if you're using the gravel vacuum it can help with removing food, baby snails and eggs.

Assassin snails also take care of other snails! And loaches of course are big snail eaters.

Added 3 yoyo loaches and the pond snails that I had been fighting to get rid of for months were gone in weeks maybe less.
