African Cichlids lovers

Howdy folks! I just purchased a 36 gallon hexagon tank for my birthday. Thus far, 12 African cichlids. Do I have room for three more or is 12 enough in a tank that size?

Depends on the type of cichlids you have.

Mbuna are usually best for smaller tanks, shell dwellers.

However some peacocks only grow to 4 inches too.

Whats your stock like?

P.S. If you overstock, it's always best to over filter. I'm overstocked with around 25 fish in a 60g. I use 2 fluval 306 canister filters + powerhead quick filter + fans to keep the poo suspended to be picked up by filters.

Weekly 20% water changes are a must too. Keep nitrates around or below 20.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Since posting this question, I have shifted my african cichlids to my 75 gallons. In that one, I have 2 zebras, 4 acei, 4 auratus, 2 electric blue johanni, 3 peacocks, 1 jewel, 3 electric yellow and 2 chinese algae eaters.

I do weekly water changes of about 30%. I have a marineland 300 and a marineland 400 power filter with plenty of aeration in the tank.

How does that sound? Am I overstocking?
