What species are you looking for in particular? What size of a tank do you have and is it already cycled?

Right now I have a 38 gallon that has been going for about 4 months now with 3 cichlids, 1 mollies, 6 tetras. I am getting a 55 gallon today and my plan is to put some cichlids in there I was thinking of some afra's, peacocks, or some frontosa's

You can definitely find all of those species for sale online. I also recommend the Ohio Cichlid Association. They have a winter auction February 11th that has a ridiculous number of fish. Here's a link: http://www.ohiocichlid.com/WinterAuction.html It's a very large and active fish club, with like 50 people at every monthly meeting, most of them breeders of multiple cichlid species. Those are the people to talk to. Here's the forum: http://www.cichlidae.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=40

If you buy a chemical-free sponge and stick it in your current filter, within about a week it'll be populated with beneficial bacteria. You can then put it in your new filter to seed it, reducing or eliminating the time it takes the tank to initially cycle ammonia to nitrite to nitrate.

Also, making your own background for the cichlids to hide in can be fun. Here are some links that will teach you how to do that:

It's nice to make caves for the cichlids: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEO64JqhjRE

Look for things that say "potable" on them. It means they're safe for drinking water. "Great stuff" is an example of that. You can also seal cement so it won't dissolve in the water. The first video I linked to discuss which sealing products to use, for example Aqua Mix penetrating grout sealer, which is food safe ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3NpDkogIfg ). Avoid bathroom sealers that fight mildew because they are in general toxic to fish.
