Will my ryukin goldfish eat live plants?

I want to add one or two live plants to my aquarium (29 gallons) but I'm worried that my goldfish will eat them or uproot them. Anyone have success with this?
Are any plants not safe for goldfish to nibble on if I do try it out?

Goldies tend to leave java fern alone as it tastes yuck, my goldies have never touched it

Do you use fake plants as well? Have they ever harmed your fish? I have all fake plants and none seem to be sharp but I'm still worried.

I have used fake and they have never harmed my fish
The pic below is my old goldies tank (they now live outside in a pond), both of the large 'ferns' are fakes
